What this website and newsletter is for

I mean, besides being a landing page for a book I’m working on.

I want to be clear upfront: this book is going to take a while to put together. Like a year, minimum. Probably two years, since I have several other projects and commitments right now, some of which take priority over this one. But I want to put that long lead time to good use.

So the plan is to post regular — likely monthly — updates that go out on the blog and newsletter, plus small ongoing updates to Bluesky and the Fediverse, and along the way I’ll be seeking your feedback and ideas to help shape what the book becomes. I’ll get into that more in the next update, since I doubt many people will read this one.

The only other thing to note in this pre-introductory post is that I will occasionally mention my other projects at the end of an update, but I otherwise will be using this website and newsletter only for talking about this project, building and engaging in a community of classic adventure fans, and maybe spotlighting some cool projects I’m seeing from other people that are relevant to the SCUMM games/engine.

Oh, also, in case anyone is wondering, I will not be using genAI for any part of this project. The work is the work, genAI sucks at almost everything I do in my job, and I will not outsource my thinking.

My proper introductory post will follow in late September, but in the meantime feel free to ping me through the comments or my personal Bluesky or Fedi accounts.
